With less than a minute remaining in the game and the Seahawks leading 23-17, the 49ers were driving down the field in an attempt to score a go-ahead touchdown. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick targeted wide receiver Michael Crabtree in the right corner of the end zone. Sherman, who was covering Crabtree, leaped into the air, deflected the pass with one hand, and managed to keep the ball in play. The deflection was then intercepted by Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith, sealing the victory for Seattle.
