Arnold Palmer - American Professional Golfer - (1929 - 2016)
One of the greatest and most charismatic players in the history of professional golf. Winning numerous events on both the PGA tour and the PGA Tour Champions. Nicknamed "The King", Palmer was one of golf's most popular stars and seen as one of the first golf superstars.
He had an unrivaled impact on golf, being plain-spoken and of modest origins he helped change the perception of golf from an "elite, upper-class pastime of private clubs" to a more accessible sport available to middle and working classes via public courses.
Jak Nicklaus, Gary Player and Arnold Palmer were known as "The Big Three" during the 1960s and are credited with popularizing and commercializing the sport around the world.
His career spanned more than 60 years, in which he won 62 PGA Tour titles, became fifth on the Tour's all-time victory list (following Sam Snead, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Ben Hogan), won seven major titles from the 1985 Masters to the 1964 Masters. Palmer won the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998 and was one of the 13 original inductees into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
