These handwoven totes are made by Kamba women living near Kitui, Kenya who harvest and use the tough fibers of the sisal plant. Because sisal grows well in the semi-arid climate of eastern Kenya the production of the sisal is adapted to the climate and takes far less inputs than crops like cotton. The spiky leaves of the sisal plant contain long fibers that are extracted and the women use their traditional weaving methods to craft totes that will last many years of constant use.
Available in a soft beige, ivory, black, or silver teal.
This sustainable, timeless accessory is a beautiful work of craftsmanship.
